A Night Out with the Pens

I found this story online yesterday of a guy and his girlfriend and how they ended up gallivanting around Raleigh with members of the Penguins between games 3 & 4 of the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals.  It's a really entertaining read.

And  despite the fact that I'm not old enough to drink I'm a *teensy* bit jealous.

Microsoft: "We Done Goofed"

As I previously documented, the Xbox One thus far has been a bit of a disaster.  Basically, Microsoft wanted to change everything about how game ownership has previously worked.  You could no longer just lend someone a game without jumping through hoops.  Used games of any kind would face similar restrictions.  The system would require a connection to the internet once every 24 hours or it would no longer function.  The reaction was, to put it mildly, bad.

But today, Microsoft decided that their policies sucked, most likely due to the backlash, and changed many of them to reflect what the PlayStation 4 and the current generation of consoles already do.  They updated the Xbox website to reflect these changes.  

While I've already preordered my PS4, now I'm debating if I've made the right choice.  I think that, for right now, at least, I'm going to hold on to the order I've already made and then get the Xbox One at some point next year when the exclusive games I want are released.  The PS4 is still $100 cheaper, after all.

The Eighth Passenger

I have a bad habit when it comes to browsing the web that sees me open a link in another tab and then then leave it there for days.  By the time I finally bother to look at it I forget how I was linked to that particular article or why I wanted to read it in the first place.  This is an example of such an occurrence.

I've had this article about movies that have had their titles mangled by translators over the years open for days without bothering to look at it until now.  It's fairly interesting and elicited a few laughs from me over the poor nature of some of the translations.  If you have nothing better to do (which you obviously don't, considering that you're reading this blog), it's worth a look.

And here's another gem:  The French title for The Hangover.  I don't understand the point, considering the title remains in English.

New & Improved

Blizzard of Kozz now supports Facebook comments.  Log in through Facebook, rip into my posts.  It doesn't get much easier than that.  I for one welcome our new Facebook overlords.

UPDATE:  Apparently it isn't working now.  I tried.  Maybe I can get it working again later.

UPDATE 2:  It seems that if a normal comment is posted, the Facebook app disappears.  I'll try to figure out a solution later.  The funny part is that none of this really matters because I think this blog may have like 20 total comments anyways.

Random Musings About a Movie Soundtrack

It has been well established that Radiohead is one of my favorite bands.  But for a while now, when I hear one song of their's in particular, I always imagine it being used during the opening credits of a movie.  That song would be "Planet Telex," the opening track off of their second album entitled The Bends.

Now hear me out.  Imagine some indie movie about a dude.  Very descriptive, I know.  After finishing the prologue, the screen segues to black.  After a few seconds, an alarm clock goes off.  The screen shows the alarm on his nightstand, followed by a hand slamming down on the alarm to turn it off.  The instant the hand turns off the alarm, the song begins to play.  While it's playing, a montage of previously referenced dude going through his morning ritual to prepare for work begins.  He brushes his teeth, showers, eats, shaves, etc.  

After showing him driving, he enters the office he works at, the office he desperately wants to escape because he feels that there has to be something more to life than this mundane job he must experience day-in and day-out, as the narrator explains.  The song fades as his boss approaches him.

....And scene.

It's perfect.  Some Indie Movie About a Dude is Academy Award winning stuff.  

I think I need to seek a profession as a screen writer.  I actually have a few decent ideas that I think could work as movies.  Maybe one day on here I could share one with you, my beloved audience.  But I don't want to make that promise.

And if I ever see this happen without some sort of compensation coming my way, someone's getting sued.

Human After All

For the past five years of my life, I've had a metal wire lining the teeth of my lower jaw.  They called it a "retainer" but it really was more of a "torture device."  For those five years, I had to grow used cutting my tongue and food getting caught in the wire.  There were times I wanted to take a pair of pliers and just rip the   thing out myself.

Luckily for me, today I had it removed.  My mouth definitely feels weird, but it's a feeling I look forward to getting used to.  I'm so glad to have that nightmare behind me.

The only downside is that now with no metal in my body, I can no longer consider myself part machine.

Alas.

UPDATE:  When I returned to pick up the transparent retainer that I'll need to wear at night from now on, the orthodontist starting touching my new haircut, curious as to how I keep it up.  I can now confirm that I have the mid-30's female demographic firmly on lock.  Things are looking up.

Texty Texts

Texting is a wonderful invention.  It allows you to quickly and effortlessly communicate with anyone.  Effortlessly for anyone else, that is.

I may be the worst texter in the history of forever.  The way I think leads me down a dark, dark path when it comes to texting.  I tend to overthink things.  And by "things" I mean everything.  Instead of going with the flow of a verbal conversation, a text message allows me to sit back and articulate my thoughts.  For me, this turns out to be more of a curse than a blessing.  Texting to me is akin to an extreme sport.  It wears down your body and requires acute focus and the right mentality.

A typical example of my texting procedure is as followed:

After deciding on the content of a message a message, I type it out, just like anyone else.  But at this point, simple hitting "send" is not a option.  There are a multitude of additional checks that my message must pass before I dare send it.  I will sit there and edit it over and over again.  The words must flow perfectly.  The meaning must be unable to be misconstrued.  My attempts at humor must not suck.  The text must be an appropriate length.  And after summoning the courage to send the text, due to my inability to not overthink, there is approximately a 90% chance that I believe that I failed on all accounts.  And then all I have left is the prayer that what I sent wasn't the worst thing ever to be documented.  If I were to die right then and there, do I want my final words to be from a poor text message?

If I've ever had a text conversation with you, I guarantee that you were on the receiving end of a similar scenario.

A few weeks ago I saw an episode of How I Met Your Mother where Ted attempts to text his latest girl which immediately reminded me of my internal struggle:

 "I started things off with something cute and charming: "I was thinking about you, so I thought I'd send you a little texty text". And the moment I hit 'send', I realized, it wasn't cute at all. It was the lamest thing anyone has ever sent to anyone. And the worst thing about texting is that once you send it, you can never get it back."

Right in the feels.  And he's right.  You can never get it back.  It's out there for the NSA to mock forever.  Therefore, the saga continues...

Totally Not an Advertisement

Over the past few weeks I've developed an addiction to Honey Bunches of Oates.  Considering that I'm writing this at 2:30 in the morning, it should be no surprise to my dear readers that I'm a night owl.  When you're a night owl, you tend to get hungry late at night, and Honey Bunches of Oates have become my late night snack of choice.  It doesn't matter what flavor, I freakin' love this stuff.  Though I am partial to the fruit blends such as the peach or the raspberry that I am currently eating.  And there are at least 2 more boxes in the basement so I'm set for a while.

Life is good.

And I totally didn't just get paid to advertise a breakfast cereal.  Though I should probably look into the possibility.  Maybe they'll give me free boxes.

I normally don't buy additional skins/costumes for games.  I don't see why I should pay real money to make my characters look pretty.  A costume has to be pretty amazing to make me even consider buying it, and Injustice delivered today.  I bought this skin without hesitation.  I mean, come on!  Russian Batman?

Who to Root for in the Stanley Cup Finals?

Tomorrow night begins the 2013 edition of the Stanley Cup finals.  Unfortunately, my team isn't in it.  So now, the big question is:  Who does Blizzard of Kozz officially support during this last struggle for the cup?

This might sound obvious, but the answer is:

The Chicago Blackhawks.

This isn't for the reason you may think.  It goes far deeper than the fact that the Bruins embarrassed the Penguins in the last round.  It is because of my deep seated hatred for one man:  Jaromir Jagr.

As you may or may not know, Jagr started his career with the Penguins in 1990, winning back to back cups with the team.

 In the early 2000's, the team stunk.  He decided he wanted out, claiming that he was "dying alive" in Pittsburgh.  So we traded him to the Washington Capitals for basically nothing.  After playing for the Rangers for a number of seasons, he left the NHL to play in Russia.  In 2011, he decided to come back to the NHL, and claimed that he wanted to play for Pittsburgh as a thank you to the team and Mario Lemieux for starting his career.  It appeared that he wanted to make amends.  Instead he spat in the face of the Penguins and took a higher paying contract from our biggest rival the Philadelphia Flyers, who of course beat us in the playoffs last year.  Most Penguins fans were ready to welcome him back with open arms.  Instead he will forever be branded in Pittsburgh sports lore as a traitor.

Projectile vomit everywhere

After being traded from Dallas, the team with which he began the year at the trade deadline, Jagr joined Boston for their championship run.  However, he hasn't been that productive, only gathering a handful of assists in the playoffs and no goals.  But the point stands.  I have no interest in this man even getting REMOTELY close to another cup win.

As such, I am supporting the Blackhawks.  The Pens were in competition with the Blackhawks to lead the overall league standings for most of the season, with each team tying with 36 wins.  Chicago won the award with 5 overtime loses being worth one point a piece.  The Penguins, on the other hand, never lost in overtime, giving the 'Hawks a (36-7-5) record to Pittsburgh's (36-12-0).  Seeing them as a rival most of the season led me to root for their opponent in each of their previous match ups during the playoffs, but now the situation has changed.  Jaromir. Jagr. Must. Go. Down.

It Will Be Mine

Today, I can claim victory, and these trinkets as my spoils.  To avoid the typical rat race that is the launch of a new console generation, I decided to go out to Gamestop today and see if they began taking preorders on the PlayStation 4.  Fortunately for me, they were.  I'm getting a PS4 day one, along with Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 (the dog tags came with the Battlefield preorder).

When I was in 8th grade, trying to get a PS3 at launch was next to impossible.  People camped outside of stores for days for their chance to get their hands on one.  I went to Sam's Club at 6 in the morning the day of release to see if they had any, seeing as there was no line outside the store, only to find out that they had exactly one console for sale for the one other person who was waiting.  The next few weeks I called every store in town almost every day asking if they got any more in, until eventually I was able to get one at a Best Buy near my grandparents' house in West Virginia.  I'm so glad that I don't have to go through that again.  Or pay $600 for the console.

Xbox Fan Support Group

After the PlayStation 4 upstaged the Xbox One at E3, some are finding letting go of Xbox to be more difficult then they initially thought.  We're all in this together.  And it's for the best.

Early Christmas AKA E3 Roundup

Ahhhh the Electronic Entertainment Expo.  More commonly known as E3, this event held yearly in the LA Convention Center plays host to all of the biggest names in the gaming industry as they announce and demo loads of new games.  This particular year was extra special, as with a new console generation looming, many of the games were for the next generation consoles.  I'll get to the consoles in a second, but right now I want to highlight the games that caught my eye at the show.

The Last of Us - (PS3)

Naughty Dog is arguably one of the greatest game developers in the business, and The Last of Us is just another excellent addition to their pedigree.  The game actually comes out on Friday and has received universal acclaim.  I'm really excited to get my hands on it later this week.

Star Wars Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront II is one of my all time favorite games.  I can't even begin to imagine the number of hours I've spent playing it on PS2 and more recently PC.  People have been clamoring for a sequel since 2005, but for various reasons it was never produced.  Until now.  Obviously this is just a teaser announcing that the game is in development, so nothing is really known about it yet, but hopefully it remains faithful to the older games.

Kingdom Hearts III - (PS4)

Back when I was in middle school, Kingdom Hearts was the bee's knees.  Since the release of Kingdom Hearts II in 2006, they've released a ton of spinoffs on various handhelds that only served to convolute the plot even further.  I said that if they made a true third entry that I wouldn't be interested.  I lied.  I'm actually really hope this ends up being as good as the previous games, and now that Disney owns Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar, I really, really hope they can be incorporated into the game.

Battlefield 4 - (PS4, XB1, PS3, 360, PC)

I'm pretty burned out on Battlefield 3 for various reason, but Battlefield 4 is going to allow for a whopping 64 players per match on next gen consoles, compared to a meager 24 in the PS3 and 360 versions of Battlefield 3.  Despite the game looking very similar, the larger scale battles and the new destruction and maps features give me enough of a reason to give it a shot.

"The Run" & Other Fun Physical Activities

Below is my Facebook post the day after I began jogging:

"I'm trying this new fad called uh, jogging. I believe it's jogging or yogging. it might be a soft j. I'm not sure but you just run for an extended period of time. It's wild."

Hilarious stuff.  That got me 12 likes so you know it had to be good.  Anyways, during my finals week this past semester, I had a revelation.  I decided that I had to do something to make me a better person, something that would allow me to gain at least one shred of self confidence and something that would give me a goal to work towards.

This is heavy.

What I decided to do was exercise.  It's something that I've always wanted to do more of, but I was embarrassed to begin in front of prying eyes at the gym at school, so I figured that this summer would be as good a time as ever to start.  The day after I came home, I began going for a 15 minute or so run every morning after I got out of bed, and a few days later I began lifting weights and regularly did other light exercises such as push ups and sit ups.  Today, I believe, would be my 34th consecutive run, a feat I'm quite proud of.  

I also got a haircut, which I am starting to believe was one of the best decisions I've made in quite some time.

I briefly touched on all of this before in the final stage of my triumphant return to blogging.

There's Always Money in the Banana Stand

I've been ranting and raving about how good of a show Arrested Development is for a while now.  Imagine my surprise when I went to go pick up my paycheck at Target today and found an Arrested Development t-shirt immortalizing the Bluth's Frozen Banana Stand.

Unfortunately, the mediums were completely gone, so apparently someone must have taken my advice and watched the show.  My shirt will have to wait for another day.  But in the immortal words of Wayne Campbell, it will be mine.  Oh yes, it will be mine.

New Life Goal: Impersonate a Celebrity

I saw this video yesterday on Kotaku, one of my go-to sources for gaming news.  What this had to do with gaming is beyond me.  Anyways, it made me see the error of my ways.  The plan will be simple:

1. Find a celebrity that looks like me
2. Wait until they are filming a movie in Pittsburgh
3. Disguise myself to look like said celebrity
4. ???
5. Profit

I've been told before I look like Jesse Eisenberg, though this was pre-haircut.  Jesse Eisenberg is obviously going to bring in the ladies.  So all I'll need to do is grab a hoodie and sunglasses, a look he fortunately shares with Ryan Gosling, and walk around Pittsburgh.  The women won't be able to keep their hands off of me.  Foolproof.

One of my best friends and likely the only person to have ever read this blog is in Rio de Janeiro for the rest of this week and all of the following week.  For what purpose?  To hunt down the drug lords in the favelas Research.

And what does his experience hunting down drug lords in the favelas researching look like?  I'm guessing something like this:

A Decision Has Been Made

Earlier this week, I debated if I should buy the new Queens of the Stone Age album ...Like Clockwork.

As you can see, I made my decision after reading several positive reviews and listening to the album on Spotify.  There are a few songs that are immediately likable, but several others are of the type that take several listens to appreciate.  Overall, I like the album so far.  However, the only way to know if it stands the test of time in my ever-expanding and shifting iTunes library (my main playlist has 2,244 songs as of this writing) is to see if the songs on it end up getting skipped when on shuffle, a test that will last months and years.

And my frustration with taking pictures continues.  This pic was taken with my parents' camera, which I'm pretty sure was purchased when I was in the 8th grade, but remains the best camera I own.  It really makes me want to get a more modern camera... or at least a smart phone instead of the LG Xenon I've been using since I ended my sophomore year of high school.

Lots of great memories this season.  For a while I didn't even think that there would be a season.  It's just a shame that it had to end this way.

Who am I kidding?  This sucks, and I'm devastated.  My next few days in a nutshell:

Not Done Yet

One last thing I want to mention before I finally sign off for the night:  Yesterday was of course June 6th, making it the 69th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.  While it may be a silly way to commemorate the invasion and pay tribute to those brave Allied service men who lost everything that fateful day, I always play the D-Day mission from Call of Duty 2 on the anniversary, something I believe that I may have mentioned this time last year.

Regardless, I have upheld the tradition yet again, completing the mission with only one death.  Good for me, right?

Generational Meeting

Being home from college means lots of hanging out with high school friends, and that's precisely how I've spent most of the past week.  The other day I decided to bring my PlayStation 3 to a friend's house to eliminate the need to download content and install updates for any games I brought.  Seeing as he already owns two different PS3 models, it occurred to me that when I brought my 2nd generation console over (furthest to the left) all 3 generations of the PS3 would be in the same location, possibly for the first time in recorded human history.  I decided to commemorate the occasion with the picture above, which has taught me that the iPod 4 does not have the highest quality camera.

It is a blessing that such a meeting did not result in catastrophe.  The human race is fortunate that the different generations meeting did not result in some sort of Back to the Future scenario where they each interfere with each other's existence or something.  I don't know.  I tried to think of something funny and then it kind of died.  Trying to be consistently entertaining is harder than it sounds.  And it doesn't help that this is being written at 1:50 AM.

Regarding Pyramid Schemes

Lately there's been a lot of talk among my friends and I concerning pyramid schemes.  Apparently there's some sort of energy drink called Vemma, and college-aged kids around the country are being suckered into "marketing"  it by buying a package for $500 and then attempted to fool people they know into doing the same thing.  It's a complete joke.  I've been harassed in an attempt to get me to sell the stuff  personally several times.  The best part is when those pushing me straight up said that it isn't a pyramid scheme.  And based on recent discussions that I've had many, many people are trying to push this on several people I know.  It's unbelievable.

A friend of mine showed me a really great article detailing Vemma and explaining how it's a scam and a waste of time and money, but I can't seem to find it.  So just take my word for it.

And every time I hear about this the first thing that comes to mind is this scene from The Office.

I seriously pity anyone foolish enough to get involved with that junk.

UPDATE:  I found the article I was talking about. It explains everything very well.  Apparently the guy who started the whole thing is using an assumed name because he got in trouble for a similar scam several years ago.  That doesn't bode particularly well with me.  And while searching for that article, I also came across this and this, both further proving that the whole thing is a joke, if the first article wasn't enough.

Again, LOL @ anyone that falls for that, and from what I can tell several people I know already have.

Fresh Off the Vine

If you don't know, Vine is a new app from the creators of Twitter that allows for the creation of 6 second video loops that can be shared.  These sometimes lead to hilarious results and get posted to YouTube, such as below.

Franklin Comes Alive!

A few days ago I mentioned that you should drop what you're doing right now and watch Arrested Development.  I've continued to watch it since, and since discovering that I can watch Netflix via my iPod in the Target break room, have been using my breaks to watch more episodes.  This additional time has allowed me to begin the final of the 3 original seasons today, and the show keeps getting better and better.  The situations just keep getting more ridiculous, the jokes keep building up over many episodes, and hilarious characters keep being introduced.  Since I know a). no one is reading this in the first place and b). if for some reason some is reading this you likely aren't up to where I am in the show, I don't want to give away too many spoilers, I will refrain from doing so.

With one exception:  Franklin Delano Bluth.

Franklin is G.O.B.'s puppet that he introduced into his magic act to spice things up.  One episode I watched today while on break showed the two of them making a record titled Franklin Comes Alive! (spoofing Frampton Comes Alive!) to promote racial equality.

Same thing

It made it pretty difficult for me to maintain my composure in the break room while I knew people were watching me.  Totally worth it.

The clip didn't seem to work unless it was after a jump break for some reason, so I added one to avoid frustration among my non-viewership.  So continued after the break...

Like Clockwork

Queens of the Stone Age, one of my favorite bands of the modern era, are releasing a new album on Tuesday.  This will be the first album they've released in 6 years.  When it was announced late last year that Dave Grohl would be drumming on the album, I became very excited for its release.

For those who don't know, Dave Grohl is arguably the most prolific rock n' roll personality of the last 20 years.  He was the drummer for Nirvana when they hit it big, playing on hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Heart-Shaped Box."  After Kurt Cobain died, he went on to form the Foo Fighters, playing every instrument on their debut album and continuing to play both guitar and drums on the follow-up.  Foo Fighters have gone on to become massively popular, though he still takes time to do various side projects.  He released a metal album titled Probot featuring a different metal vocalist on each track while Grohl again plays every instrument.  He played drums on Queens of the Stone Age's best album, Songs for the Deaf, which is why the idea of him coming back excited me.  He also played in a supergroup known as Them Crooked Vultures with Josh Homme, the vocalist/lead guitarist of Queens of the Stone Age and John Paul Jones, the multi-instrumentalist of the little known band Led Zeppelin.  At the 12-12-12 concert for Hurricane Sandy relief, he reunited with the remaining members of Nirvana to play with Paul freaking McCartney.  So it's safe to say he's had a pretty successful career.

It's Arrested Development

There's been a lot of hoopla over Arrested Development the last few weeks due to Netflix picking it up for a 4th season close to ten years after its original cancellation.

 

Hoopla

I started watching it along with How I Met Your Mother soon after I signed up for Netflix on the recommendation of a friend.  I'm part-way through the second season and I can easily say that it is probably the funniest and best show to ever have been released on television.  I don't want to spend too much time on it right now because I actually want to go watch it but let me just say that if you have Netflix and haven't seen it, drop what you're doing and start immediately.  If the show doesn't have you sucked in by the Fire Sale of episode 2 you aren't human.

All you need to know about the premise is in the opening.  "And now the story of a wealthy family who lost everything, and the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together... It's Arrested Development."

It has several actors you probably know that have gone on to do bigger things such as Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Michael Cera, and I just don't want to go on any more because do yourself a favor and just watch it.

Videos Too Long to Post to Facebook But Still are at Least Partially Worth Your Time

Sorry to keep you waiting, friends.  I've been very busy lately and haven't had the time to post.  For right now I just wanted to share a few videos that I've discovered on YouTube in my spare time over the last couple weeks.  I tend to post videos I find on Facebook, but I feel like these are too long and uninteresting for the Facebook crowd.  You, my dear readers, are a different story, for better or worse.

The first video is entitled The Death and Return of Superman and looks at DC comic's decision to kill off Superman in the 1990's and the aftermath of said decision.  While the visuals appear cheap, the short film was produced professionally and includes several big name talents including Elijah Wood, Simon Pegg, and Ron Howard.  The cheap quality of most of the footage only adds to the humor and overall it's a very interesting look at the creative process behind comic books while remaining thoroughly entertaining during its 15 minute run time.  If you have 15 minutes to kill I highly recommend it.

The second video, on the other hand, is not worth sitting through its entire run time.  This isn't to say that it's bad , but due to the fact that it's the length of an entire feature film.  That would be because the video is Toy Story lovingly recreated shot for shot with real toys.  I couldn't sit through the whole thing and only jumped around watching a few clips, but what I did see was very impressively done.  I should also mention that Toy Story was a very big part of my early childhood.  How serious?  I'm pretty sure when I was in preschool I alternating watching it every night with A Charlie Brown Christmas for some reason.  This strange combo likely helped develop me into the twisted shell of a man I am today.  Anyways, the point is that this video had me nostalgia tripping hard, which made the short time I spent with it worthwhile.  Because nostalgia is a powerful tool against the uninitiated.  But, we are initiated... aren't we, Bruce?

Since I was in the first grade and was first exposed to Pokémon, I have always felt that a portion of the wood pattern on the my bathroom door has looked like the Pokémon Grimer.  I've never shared this random tidbit with anyone.  At the same time, it does seem like something that would be difficult to work into a conversation, even when someone would be over my house, without being awkward and forced.

Anyways I saw it today and thought "Why not post it to the blog?"  So that's what I'm doing.

What do you think?  Yes?  No?  Am I just grasping at topics for posts because I enjoy seeing the post count go up?  Is anyone actually reading this?

And you know what else just occurred to me?  In none of the eleven posts since the comeback have I posted any music.  I've been on yet another Radiohead kick lately, and this song has been popping up on my iPod a lot the last few days.

I'm done now.  I swear.

The Xbox One Reveal in a Nutshell

The other day I shared my thoughts on the Xbox One.  Search any gaming website or forum and you can see that my concerns are shared by many.  In reality people are freaking out.  The press conference Microsoft held the other day has led to nothing but negative press and word of mouth.  Maybe they can stop the bleeding at E3, but the common perception of the announcement is summed up nicely in this GIF.

UPDATE:  Since this topic is too fun to stop talking about, Cracked just posted an article that, in their unique style, explains the problems with the Xbox One.  The article also includes a video that I've seen floating around the 'net today summarizing the conference in under two minutes that I've included below.  If the point hasn't been driven home yet, this video is sure to do it.

Bane's Speech as Performed by The Joker

This is great.  Some guy on YouTube does a perfect imitation of Mark Hamill's interpretation of the Joker and uses it to recite Bane's speech about Commissioner Gordon and Harvey Dent from The Dark Knight Rises.

For those of you who don't know, Mark Hamill is most famous for playing the little known role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.  In recent years he's become well known for providing voice work for The Joker over a variety of mediums, most notably the animated Batman series from the '90's and the excellent Batman: Arkham video games (not including the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins).

All the same dude.

Anyway this is just a fun re-imagining of  what could have been if Hamill's Joker "liberated" Gotham in the place of Tom Hardy's Bane.  And it needs to be said again, the guy who did this really did an outstanding job of imitating Mark Hamill's voice.

Daddy's Home

It is done.  I am finally prepared to reveal my revamped blog to the public.  Welcome my children to Blizzard of Kozz.  If you are reading this for the first time, welcome.  Content on this blog varies wildly.  My main areas of interest, if the header wasn't descriptive enough, are the NHL, gaming, tech, music, film, and history.  For the most part, posts will consist of material related to these topics, be it simply passing along articles or videos I feel are worth sharing, or adding my snide commentary to news about said topics.  My life will also be mentioned from time to time, but who reads a blog to learn about the boring life of the author?  A lot of people?  Whatevs.

Actually I've been pretty committed to making some significant changes in my life as of late.  I've taken it upon myself to break my habit of being lazy and unmotivated.  I aimed to accomplish this by beginning to work out over the summer to give myself a goal and motivational tool.  So far it's worked splendidly.  I don't know if I should eventually expect physical results, but mentally each workout does a lot for me.  I will make a post detailing this more at some point in the future, but I'm not quite sure yet.  I'm not promising any more articles like I did last year because 90% of them never came to fruition.  If I can actually get some people to read the reborn blog I might actually keep up with it this time and write some articles from time to time whenever I'm bored (hence the revamp), but that remains to be seen.

Senators' Captain Jumps Ship

The Penguins dominated the Senators tonight 7-3 on the way to taking a 3-1 lead in their Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup.  After the game, 40 year old Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson's reaction to the media was less than inspiring to his team.  When asked if the Senators were capable of making a comeback in the series, Alfredsson responded with "probably not," and then quipped that the Pens "have too much depth."

I'm sorry, but no matter what the state of the series is, a captain has to be more positive than that.  The captain is, obviously, the leader and representative of the team  and its players on and off the ice.  Can you imagine what Alfredsson's teammates thought when they heard that he said that?  It had to be absolutely deflating.  The dude was nominated for the Mark Messier Leadership award  a few days ago, which is presented to the player who "exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season."  He has to have something better to say than that in the face of adversity.  Come on.

The Third Xbox is Xbox One, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Always Online and the End of Lending Games to Friends

As I mentioned earlier, the next generation Xbox was announced today, and is officially called the Xbox One.  Before I say anything else, I want to comment on the name.  My initial thought was that it was confusing and stupid.  Why would Microsoft name their third console Xbox One?  But after a while I understood their reasoning.  The Xbox One is supposed to be the 'one' item you need for your entertainment center.  The choice is still going to lead to confusion for the uninformed, I'm sure.  PlayStation 4 is going to sound a lot more appealing than Xbox One just due to the bigger number.  Some might think that the Xbox One is synonymous with the original Xbox and think that it is inferior to the Xbox 360 while that console is still on sale.  If anything, at least the name is better than Wii U.

I won't waste time talking about all of the features of the Xbox One.  If you are interested in the console, I'm sure you've already seen everything.  If not, this article from Kotaku covers everything nicely.

What I will discuss is that every nightmare scenario that has been rumored for months has come to fruition.  Every.  Last.  One.  Said scenarios after the jump.

The Curious Case of Jarome Iginla

One fateful night in late March, after everyone thought he was a Boston Bruin, an event occurred at approximately 1 AM that I will never forget.  Jarome Iginla became a Pittsburgh Penguin.  I spent months convinced that the trade was going to happen, and when it finally did I couldn't contain myself.  Let's just say that I'm glad that no one saw the embarrassing dance I performed upon opening my laptop the next morning.

The Pensblog expertly and hilariously covered the event here, here, here, here, and here.

However, since his arrival, coach Dan Bylsma has insisted on playing him almost exclusively on the left wing of Evgeni Malkin.  Iginla already is a surefire first ballot hall of famer for his 17 seasons played at wait for it..... the right wing.

While this might not seem like that big of a deal, it is extremely noticeable on the ice.  The few games he played on the right wing being centered by either Sidney Crosby or Jussi Jokinen have shown, despite what Iginla may say to the contrary, him playing a much more comfortable game.

This all leads to the main point of this post.  Dejan Kovacevic over at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review wrote an excellent article asking the question many, including myself, are thinking at this point - If the Penguins aren't going to play Iginla at his natural position, why did they even bother trading for him at all?

UPDATE:  After scoring two goals in last night's game, Jarome Iginla can play wherever he wants.  Just keep scoring.

Next Generation Xbox to be Revealed at 1 PM Today

The next Xbox is going to be revealed at 1 PM today.  The conference can be streamed directly from an Xbox 360 or from Xbox.com.  I'm really skeptical about the whole thing right now due to a number of rumors that paint a really poor picture of the machine, supposedly named "Xbox Infinity," but I'll reserve judgement for after the reveal.  I may post my thoughts later tonight, so stay tuned.

And if anything at least they'll show off the next-gen Call of Duty, but since Infinity Ward is developing it I'm skeptical about that as well.
