It Will Be Mine

Today, I can claim victory, and these trinkets as my spoils.  To avoid the typical rat race that is the launch of a new console generation, I decided to go out to Gamestop today and see if they began taking preorders on the PlayStation 4.  Fortunately for me, they were.  I'm getting a PS4 day one, along with Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 (the dog tags came with the Battlefield preorder).

When I was in 8th grade, trying to get a PS3 at launch was next to impossible.  People camped outside of stores for days for their chance to get their hands on one.  I went to Sam's Club at 6 in the morning the day of release to see if they had any, seeing as there was no line outside the store, only to find out that they had exactly one console for sale for the one other person who was waiting.  The next few weeks I called every store in town almost every day asking if they got any more in, until eventually I was able to get one at a Best Buy near my grandparents' house in West Virginia.  I'm so glad that I don't have to go through that again.  Or pay $600 for the console.

¡Rio!

One of my best friends and likely the only person to have ever read this blog is in Rio de Janeiro for the rest of this week and all of the following week.  For what purpose?  To hunt down the drug lords in the favelas Research.

And what does his experience hunting down drug lords in the favelas researching look like?  I'm guessing something like this:

Above:  Hunting down drug lords in the favelas Research
Hopefully he can log on and see this while in between hunting down drug lords in the favelas researching so I can get that elusive second page view from Brazil.

If you're reading this, good luck the rest of the way.

And for the record this changes nothing.  I still hate Modern Warfare 2.

Not Done Yet

One last thing I want to mention before I finally sign off for the night:  Yesterday was of course June 6th, making it the 69th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.  While it may be a silly way to commemorate the invasion and pay tribute to those brave Allied service men who lost everything that fateful day, I always play the D-Day mission from Call of Duty 2 on the anniversary, something I believe that I may have mentioned this time last year.

Regardless, I have upheld the tradition yet again, completing the mission with only one death.  Good for me, right?

If you've never seen the mission played, here's a video of its first portion.

The Third Xbox is Xbox One, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Always Online and the End of Lending Games to Friends

The Xbox One console, the revamped Kinect sensor, and the console's new controller

As I mentioned earlier, the next generation Xbox was announced today, and is officially called the Xbox One.  Before I say anything else, I want to comment on the name.  My initial thought was that it was confusing and stupid.  Why would Microsoft name their third console Xbox One?  But after a while I understood their reasoning.  The Xbox One is supposed to be the 'one' item you need for your entertainment center.  The choice is still going to lead to confusion for the uninformed, I'm sure.  PlayStation 4 is going to sound a lot more appealing than Xbox One just due to the bigger number.  Some might think that the Xbox One is synonymous with the original Xbox and think that it is inferior to the Xbox 360 while that console is still on sale.  If anything, at least the name is better than Wii U.

I won't waste time talking about all of the features of the Xbox One.  If you are interested in the console, I'm sure you've already seen everything.  If not, this article from Kotaku covers everything nicely.

What I will discuss is that every nightmare scenario that has been rumored for months has come to fruition.  Every.  Last.  One.  Said scenarios after the jump.

A Follow Up & More!

After thinking about all of the time I wasted the last week posting about what kind of content would be found on this blog, it occurred to me that the last two posts were not entirely accurate.  While they did a good job of describing my interests and gave me several topics to discuss here, obviously, there is going to be more to discuss than what those few topics covered.  I'll be sure to comment on anything interesting that I do or come across, be it in reality or online (I am a fairly active denizen of the internet, after all).  After a few posts, I'm sure my readership (which I still believe to be at 1) will begin to understand.  Expect the unexpected.

Captain's Log Part III: Will It Blend?

I really want to get done with this introduction so I can start posting pictures of cats like the rest of the internet.

Now that's more like it.

While I am surely not the first person to notice this, it has recently occurred to me that all of my interests tend to "blend" into each other in one manner or another.  Let's run through an example, shall we?
When I was in the 7th grade, I saw the film Saving Private Ryan for the first time.  This affected my life in a profound way and today I consider it to be my favorite movie.  The opening scene on Omaha Beach was the most intense scene I had ever seen in a movie, and arguably to this day still holds that regard.  The rest of the movie was a harrowing tale of men just trying to do their job as part of a larger picture, with most of them never making it home.  For those who are completely oblivious, this movie takes place in France following the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944 (which is, coincidentally, the day on which I am typing this).  That movie profoundly opened my eyes to World War II and these unreal experiences that very real people lived through.

Captain's Log Part II: The Least Interesting Man in the World

I believe that it was world famous boxer Ivan Drago that once said "I must break you."  This was said prior to him being repeatedly pummeled in the face by fellow famous boxer Rocky Balboa.  The result was the end of the Cold War.

The Cold War lasted 50 years because the match lasted 50 years.  Duh.

You may be asking yourself right now ("yourself" referring to the likely one other person besides myself that will ever read this), "what does that have to do with anything?"  That is a very excellent question.  And all excellent questions deserve equally excellent answers.  Over the last few years, there has been one particular friend of mine, whom we will refer to as "Rick," that has insisted that I must create a blog.  Why is beyond me.  As per the title of this post, I do not consider myself to me a very interesting person and certainly do not lead an interesting life.  I am a 19 year old college kid from the Pittsburgh area.  That's about it.  Not a lot of excitement there.  However, Rick insists that I have interesting topics to discuss, from my interests, opinions, and happenings in my life.  As such, after years of prodding, I have been broken by his iron will.  This blog has been forged out of my own blood, sweat, tears, and the blood, sweat, and tears of my enemies.  The jury is still out on if there will be anything to post that will actually be interesting to anyone, most importantly you, my dear readers (all 1 of you).
